What We Do
Members and pledges participate in a plethora of service projects and events in the Madison area and within UW-Madison, donating 100s of hours in total per semester. Recent examples include:
- Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
- Peer tutoring of fellow accounting students
- Campus-wide cleanup efforts
- Events at the Madison Children's Museum
- YMCA Halloween event
- Habit for Humanity Rake-a-thon
- Polar Plunge
Throughout each semester, members and pledges have the opportunity to participate in four Professional Meetings, each one sponsored by a different firm. After an update from the Board of Directors of the Sigma Chapter, a member of the faculty speaks and the sponsoring firm presents about a pertinent business issue. Afterwards, refreshments are provided to encourage faculty, firm representatives, and students to mingle and network. Meetings provide an excellent opportunity for students to interact and network with business professionals. Attire is business professional!
Members and pledges have the opportunity to participate in trips to visit accounting firms in Chicago or Minneapolis. Trips include office visits and other networking events and activities with firms. They also provide an excellent opportunity to get to know other members of Beta Alpha Psi!
At numerous events throughout each semester, members and pledges are encouraged to interact and have fun outside of a professional context. Examples of recent social events include:
- Brewers game
Evening at the Comedy Club on State
Bowling at Union South
Late night ice skating at the Shell
The Terry Warfield Scholarship and the Outstanding Membership Scholarship are awarded on a semesterly or yearly basis. The scholarships are awarded based on a vote by the Executive Board (President, President-Elect, and Vice President) and the Board of Directors, respectively. Both scholarships are awarded to members or pledges that demonstrate outstanding service to the organization.
