Pledge Requirements

The following requirements must be met in order to successfully pledge the Sigma Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi:

  1. Must be enrolled in or have completed AIS 301 (or equivalent) AND must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in all accounting courses taken 
  2. Apply via the madisonbap.com website.
  3. Pay pledge dues of $85.00.  Dues are strongly encouraged to be paid by the date of the first professional meeting.  Pledges who do not pay by the pledge social will be dropped from the pledge class. Checks are payable to Beta Alpha Psi.
  4. Attend two pledge social events, all four professional meetings, elections, and the initiation ceremony (the ceremony is held in the following semester). 
  5. Pledges must attend at least one general member social event in addition to the pledge socials.
  6. Complete five hours of community service.  There are several opportunities to satisfy this requirement; they will be discussed at the information session.
  7. Must attend a Beta sponsored ALPS course that lasts about two hours near the end of the pledge semester.

Member Requirements

The Sigma Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi recognizes two different levels of membership 

Member in Good Standing

  1. Attend at least one Beta Alpha Psi Professional Meeting

  2. Pay dues of $40.00 on time

  3. Must attend one social event during the semester.

  4.  The member must attend elections

    • If the member is unable to attend elections for a valid reason (as judged by the President and Vice President), the member is permitted to complete two hours of community service in place of this requirement.

  5. Complete at least one community service hour through Beta during the semester 

Superior Member

  1.  Resident Student Member
    • The first option for achieving “Superior Member “ status:
      • The member must attend at least three Beta Alpha Psi Professional Meetings,
      • The member must pay their dues on time, ($40.00)
      • The member must complete at least three hours of community service during the semester.At least one of the three hours of community service should be from a Beta Alpha Psi-sponsored community service event,
      • The member must attend elections,
      • The member must attend at least one Beta Alpha Psi social event
    • The second option for achieving “Superior Member” status:
      • The member must attend at least two Beta Alpha Psi Professional Meetings,
      • The member must serve on a Beta Alpha Psi committee,
      • The member must pay their dues on time, ($40.00)
      • The member must complete at least three hours of community service throughout the semester, at least one of which must be from a Beta Alpha Psi-sponsored community service event
      • The member must attend elections,
      • The member must attend at least one Beta Alpha Psi social event (this can be extended to the professional trip)
  2.  Non-Resident Student Member:
    •  A non-resident student member is a member who will participate in one of the following during the semester:
      •  An internship,
      • A work opportunity outside of Dane County,
      • An opportunity to study at another institution.
    • A non-resident student member may achieve “Superior Member” status if the member previously qualified for “Superior Member” status and notified the Executive Committee, in writing, at the beginning of the semester of their intent to become a non-resident student member.
